Strawberry festival

2018 | 36cm x 28cm (framed) | Oil on board April brings with it strawberries. The small village of Mgarr (Malta) celebrates this with a strawberry festival, where all the village gets together to pull off a yearly event where everything strawberry goes. An elderly neighbour came by and gave me a box of freshly picked strawberries. Their luminance inspired me to work on this still life. Mgarr is known for this particular crop. Interestingly enough, in older times, strawberries in the locality where much smaller, and much sweeter.
